My Elementary Education Glossary

Hi, my name is Vicky. I live in Saint-Jerome. I have been studying Social Sciences at Cegep Saint-Jerome. It is my last session before going at University. My field of study is elementary education. The glossary that I have made could be useful for people who will go in this field of study. All the words in this glossary are basic notions related at elementary education. So, all people who want to study in this field of study or have been studying elementary education can use this glossary because notions are vocabulary commonly used in this field of study.

Classroom management
It is refers to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to keep students organized, orderly, focused, attentive, on tasks, and academically productive during a class.
Collaborative learning
An umbrella term for a variety of approaches in education that involve joint intellectual effort by students or students and teachers. Groups of students work together in searching for understanding, meaning or solutions or in creating a product.
Education evaluation
It is the evaluation process of characterizing and appraising some aspect/s of an educational process.
Education policy
It consists of the principles and government policies in the educational sphere as well as the collection of laws and rules that govern the operation of education systems.
Educational animation
Animation produced for the specific purpose of fostering learning.
Educational organization
In educational psychology, educational organization is organization within the scope of education. It deals with the theory of organization as it applies to the education of the human mind.
Individualized instruction
Personalized learning, individualized instruction, personal learning environment and direct instruction all refer to efforts to tailor education to meet the different needs of students.
Language education
It refers to the process and practice of acquiring a second or foreign language.
Learning
It is the process of acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences.
Mathematics education
It is referred to as the practice of teaching and learning of mathematics in a way of solving problems involving learning the algorithms and formulas necessary for computations.
Pedagogy
The approach to teaching, refers to the theory and practice of learning, and how this process influences, and is influenced by, the social, political and psychological development of learners.
Personal development
It covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employ ability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.
Primary school
It is a school for children from about four to eleven years old, in which they receive primary or elementary education.
Quiz
A quiz is a brief assessment used in education and similar fields to measure growth in knowledge, abilities, and/or skills.
Reading education
It is the process by which individuals are taught to derive meaning from text.
Report card
A report on a student that is periodically submitted by a school to the student's parents or guardian, an evaluation of performance.
Special education
It is the practice of educating students in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs.
Teaching
In education, teaching is the concerted sharing of knowledge and experience, which is usually organized within a discipline and, more generally, the provision of stimulus to the psychological and intellectual growth of a person by another person or artifact.
Understanding
It is a psychological process related to an abstract or physical object, such as a person, situation, or message whereby one is able to think about it and use concepts to deal adequately with that object.
Writing
The act or process of producing and recording words in a form that can be read and understood.
